Coach J. R. Richardson
Head Coach
J.R. is a 1990 graduated of Catholic High.
He earned two varsity letters in football. During his junior season,
he led the Knights to a 5-0 record, until he sustained a knee injury
that ended his season early. He returned the next season (1989) to
lead Catholic to the semi-finals of the State playoffs. Along the way,
he was named to first team All City (88 & 89), Montgomery Player
of the Year (89) and honorable mention All State.
Coach Richardson continued his playing
days at Alabama State, where he attended school on a football
scholarship.
In 1993 J.R. started his football-coaching
career, as he returned to Catholic as an assistant with the varsity.
He coached quarterbacks and the secondary. He was also responsible for
coaching the scout teams.
In 1996 J.R. resumed playing football with
the semi-pro team, The Prattville Raiders, where he has earned League
Most Valuable Player twice; team Most Valuable Player twice; League
All Stars twice; and All Star Most Valuable Player twice.
Even while playing he still maintained his
devotion to CHS. He continued to coach at Catholic, while leading the
Raiders to League Championships.
In 2000 J.R. gets his first football head
coaching experience as he takes over the 7th grade team.
